The Forres, Nairn and District Riding for the Disabled group offers therapeutic riding sessions to 32 disabled children from local primary and secondary schools, contributing to their physical and mental well-being with many of them achieving a level of success they so rarely experience in other aspects of their life.

For many who come to us, it is the highlight of their week as they are able to experience success in small achievements, enjoy the movement and freedom that riding provides and have their trust in the pony returned.

The benefits of the session lasts well beyond the Monday morning, with feedback from parents and school telling us of improved muscle tone, better concentration and motivation to stick at tasks.

We are fortunate to have well-trained ponies, two dedicated and professional Instructors plus a group of local volunteers who give their time as leaders for the ponies, side-walkers and fund-raisers. However, as we make no charge to the riders or schools and with each session costing over £400 in pony hire, instruction and insurance, our fund-raising efforts are continuous.
